Jaded London launches Matrix inspired collection

British fast fashion brand, Jaded London has launched its latest collection in collaboration with none other than Warner Bros Entertainment inspired by classic film production, The Matrix. The collection went live on the Jaded London website on November 25 and since has sold out multiple pieces in an impressively short amount of time.

The collection comes with the rise of Y2K style, which Jaded London is renowned for. The release of the film, The Matrix in 1999 set many style trends through the 2000s such as long gothic coats and chic monogrammatic looks, often be paired with a classic chunky boot.

Reimagining the Matrix aesthetic into the modern day, the collection features an abundance of contrasting prints and a balance of colourful, extravagant designs with your monochromatic black basics. LA based fashion marketing student and owner of yet-to-launch clothing brand, 40 Four Studies, Georgia Dickson comments, “I love how all of the pieces are minimalistic yet make a statement. The all black with the pops of colour underneath looks super sleek!”

The collection takes an innovative approach towards materials, playing with mesh and padding fabrics for a juxtaposition of garments that keeps cohesive to the Matrix image. The contemporary collection with 90s inspired twists also features a number of unisex pieces. With the rise of genderless fashion, Jaded ensures, that their cool brand image remains in tact through offering a range of versatile streetwear pieces to suit every body type.

Italian micro-influencer, Manuel Ingrosso gained his following through his minimalist and sophisticated, Matrix-like style on Instagram. Ingrosso writes, “You can’t miss this purchase if you are a fan of the Matrix. I think the collection stands out for the geometric shapes and prints that remind of the trilogy. In my opinion, every piece has a futuristic vision which embodies the fashion of the future: inclusive and genderless.”

_shift has taken the time to narrow down our five favourite looks from the collection:

The Transmission set

The Instagram worthy Transmission set comprises of a matching high neck top and mini skirt co-ord. Made of a breathable jersey material, the set is perfect for a warehouse party or for Winter layering. We paired this look with a pair of statement Naked Wolfe boots to keep the Y2K style of Jaded and powerful aesthetic of the Matrix in tow. The blue warped trinity print paired with the extremely high slit up the skirt makes this duo an edgy and sexy but tasteful stand-out in the collection.

The ‘Transmission’ skirt; £35 and the ‘Transmission’ top; £35

The Showdown jacket

Featuring an oversized, boxy fit, dropped shoulder and sharp collar, the unisex Showdown jacket can work for everyone. Incorporating the Matrix directly into the design, the print is an in motion shot of a shootout scene with neutral colours to allow for a statement but versatile finish. To keep the look Matrix-inspired, we opted for the Slash baklava mask also from the collection and some classic ASOS cargo pants. As a best seller, the Showdown padded jacket is currently sold out, but we’ll keep our fingers crossed for a restock soon.

The ‘Showdown’ jacket; £85 and the ‘Slash’ baklava mask; £40

The Anaglyph dress

This mesh mini makes for the ultimate party dress. The mix of green, blue and red against the black mesh adds another dimension to the look and proves that the Matrix is more than just monochrome. For an evening look, we paired the Anaglyph dress with a black staple, oversized Zara blazer and Naked Wolfe heels to add some drama. With a scoop neck detail and thin, breathable material, the Anaglyph dress can even double as a beach cover up for our guys and girls going abroad this Summer.

The ‘Anaglyph’ mesh dress; £35

The Stealth suit

In true Matrix fashion, the collection features the Stealth suit: a black blazer with matching suit trousers. Keeping within Jaded’s innovative and edgy brand image, the suit is made of wadded nylon to keep the structured yet comfortable fit. True to size, we added another piece from the collection, the Cipher top and green soled Bottega Veneta boots to add a fun pop of colour to the traditional Matrix style.

The ‘Cipher’ top; £40, the ‘Stealth’ blazer; £110 and the ‘Stealth’ suit trousers; £60

The Empire jacket

One of the most versatile pieces of the collection is the unisex Empire jacket. The longline rain coat has an oversized, lightweight fit and a stowaway hood for an easy wear. The balloon sleeve and bullet charm on the zip add for an extra effect to the otherwise staple piece. Having chosen a casual approach, we styled the Empire jacket with two other pieces from the Matrix collection; the Two Faced denim jeans and Calldrop t-shirt with a pair of Comme Des Garçons Play X Converse high-tops. Dressed up or down, this piece is a must-have.

The ‘Empire’ jacket; £100, ‘Calldrop’ t-shirt; £40 and the ‘Two Faced’ denim jeans; £75

Innovative and cool collaborations like this is what has built Jaded London up in recent years to become one of the most popular fast fashion brands in the UK. Influencer, Nasty Gal and Boohoo ambassador, Kyra Skinner comments, “Jaded is a brand I’ve really wanted to work with but haven’t had the chance to yet!”

Collaboration or not, each Jaded collection always features a number of pieces you’re guaranteed to see up and down your Instagram feed. The contemporary yet nostalgic aesthetic of the Warner Bros collaboration is what separates Jaded from similar fast fashion brands.

Skinner adds, “this collection is very Y2K, 2000 vibes especially the blue co-ord. I love the use of the shades… It also kind of gives me industrial vibes as well, so I can see how it is based on the Matrix… I think Jaded is a more edgy, alternative brand.”

Designed for the ‘it’ girl, it’s no doubt that Jaded London will continue to dominate in the fast fashion market. After churning out a number of edgy and cool collections like their Warner Bros collaboration in the last year, we can’t wait to see what’s next.
