London-based entrepreneur and founder of Nubian Skin Ade Hassan launches inclusive footwear collection
This week sees the launch of a footwear collection from Nubian Skin founder Ade Hassan, who aims to offer products that complements darker skin tones.
Following the ethos of Hassan’s lingerie collection, which redefines the colour nude, Hassan’s new footwear range includes a classic leather 3.5inch pointed toe heels and a ballet flat, made of leather and lined with canvas.
The lingerie and hosiery brand was established in 2014 and has since been known for providing ‘nude’ underwear for medium and dark-skinned women. Making it easier for customers to find their perfect shade, Nubian Skin provides products in four signature colours from the darkest being berry, cinnamon, caramel and café au lait. The most recent and lightest shade, champagne, is only available in the shoe collection.
Inspired by her frustration of not being able to find ‘nude’ underwear that complimented her skin tone, Ade Hassan created Nubian Skin. It has since been seen on various A-listers, including Beyoncé Knowles, who wore them for her Formation World Tour last year and Scandal’s Kerry Washington.
According to marketing coordinator for Nubian Skin, Amy Lodder, the creation of a footwear collection for the brand had always been a sector they wanted to explore. “Our mission has always been redefining nude, so we’ve always noticed areas of fashion that weren’t particularly diverse with ‘nude’,” Lodder said.
On the expansion of the brand Amy Lodder said: “As a fashion brand, it is always important to innovate, and shoes seemed like the perfect next step.”
The shoe collection is only available online from sizes UK 3 to UK 9 and retails for £75.00 for the classic leather ballet flat and £99.00 for the pointed toe heel in all shades.
