Supreme collaborates with luxe sports brand Lacoste
Brand of the moment Supreme’s latest collaboration is with luxe sport label Lacoste. The collection sees a crossover between different sporting styles, mixing Lacoste’s preppy, tennis-inspired theme with a streetwear edge. With a release date today, it is thought to already be a sell out.
The news comes two months after Supreme lit up the internet with the announcement of a collaboration with Louis Vuitton. Once a brand synonymous with skaters, it hopes to appeal to a different demographic as the price point – which is as high as $68,500 for a logo-embossed trunk – is no longer achievable for the originally audience. With a suggested release date of mid July the pairing has been plastered all over social media.

However, this new pairing with Lacoste does not signify a break in Supreme’s interest in merging with other brands. In 2016, Supreme released 25 collections featuring other brands. Although some of these were new collaborations, many of them were with repeat brands, such as The North Face and Timberland. Looking at the extensive list of partnerships Supreme has had since its conception, streetwear, or at least clothes made for the outdoors, seem to be a recurring theme. Alongside this, the majority of their new pairings were with people or brands, such as Supreme/Slayer, which featured a thrash metal band from California.
This year marked the start of Supreme merging with different markets. The Lacoste collaboration sees the brand gravitating back towards activewear, while still reminding brands that they have the potential to be luxury. Founded by tennis players, it makes sense for Supreme to team up with a high-end sportswear brand.
The Lacoste collection will be available at Supreme stores and online from today.
